1. Match the model and parts

Read SV10 on the machine label and compare your parts with manual 229602-01. Filter A has a small pinch handle; Filter B twists off the rear. A star-shaped top is a different version. Confirm the dry motorized head in this manual before following a brush task.

Region: US

Parts: Pinch-handle Filter A and twist-off Filter B; original dry motorized head

Not covered: V8 star pre-filter; V8 Cyclone; Soft roller / Fluffy head cleaning; V10 / V11; Modified batteries or aftermarket heads.

3. Follow your checks

Match the model and preparation to start.

Read all possible routes

Is the charger disconnected, the machine cool and undamaged, and your hand away from the trigger?

  • Yes — Continue with the matching parts and the checks below.
  • No — Stop for a damaged charger, burning smell, liquid exposure, a swollen or leaking battery, broken catches or an obstruction you cannot safely reach. Contact Dyson and keep the battery sealed.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

Are the contents ordinary dry household dirt, with no liquid, hot ash or sharp/hazardous material?

  • Yes — Contain the dust during emptying.
  • No — Stop and ask Dyson about unsuitable material or liquid exposure.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

Are the red emptying lever and bin base intact and moving without force?

  • Yes — Use the normal lever and base latch.
  • No — A stuck or broken release needs support; do not pry it open.
  • Not sure — Save your observations and compare the matching manual before continuing.

4. Follow and record

Complete the checks before recording physical work. Follow steps in order.

  1. Record the fill level

Compare the contents with MAX while the machine is stopped. Disconnect the charger and detach the wand and floor tool.

Look for: Empty at MAX; routine earlier emptying is also possible.

Manual: p11 Emptying the clear bin; Cleaning the clear bin
  2. Contain the dust

Hold the machine by its handle above the waste bin. Enclose the clear bin tightly in a dustproof bag to reduce contact with dust. Keep your finger off the trigger.

Look for: The bag can receive the dirt without blocking the emptying mechanism.

Manual: p11 Emptying the clear bin; Cleaning the clear bin
  3. Raise the emptying lever

Pull the red lever back toward you and lift it to raise the cyclone. Continue until the bin base opens and releases the dry dirt.

Look for: The base opens through the normal release; resistance means stop, not extra force.

Manual: p11 Emptying the clear bin; Cleaning the clear bin
  4. Finish emptying

Carefully withdraw the machine from the bag, seal the bag and dispose of the dry contents normally. If residue remains on the bin, use the separate bin-wipe task.

Look for: No loose object is caught where the base will close.

Manual: p11 Emptying the clear bin; Cleaning the clear bin
  5. Lower the cyclone first

Push the cyclone down to its normal position before closing the base.

Look for: The cyclone is fully lowered; the base should not be forced against a raised cyclone.

Manual: p11 Emptying the clear bin; Cleaning the clear bin
  6. Latch the base

Close the base by hand until it clicks. Confirm it stays closed before reconnecting the wand and head. Stop if a catch cannot hold.

Look for: The closed base and lowered cyclone are both secure.

Manual: p11 Emptying the clear bin; Cleaning the clear bin

5. Keep your result

Record what you observed. A completed checklist does not certify that equipment is repaired.

When to check again

Dirt reaches MAX.

Empty as soon as dirt reaches the MAX mark; avoid overfilling.
